DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Four were killed and one was injured during a gunfight arising from a dispute among security personnel manning a chromite mining company in Bukidnon province.
Major Michele Anayron, spokesperson of the 4th Infantry Division based in Cagayan De Oro City, said the clash occurred in the village of Calabugao in Impasug-ong town of Bukidnon province on Saturday.
Anayron said two groups—one belonging to a certain Jose Perez and the other led by a Datu Sagayna, a tribal leader—had been locked in an unspecified dispute at the chromite mining company, for which the two groups provided security services.
Police investigation revealed that the group of Datu Sagayna ambushed Perez’s group and took two M16 rifles and an M14.
Senior Inspector Rafael Lutrago, the Impasug-ong town police chief, said the conflict appeared to revolve around the mining activity in the area.
